my cousin who lives in western
australia found this site by accident and phoned me in great excitement. The first photo on
this site is a row of houses. the one closest to the right of photo is where our grandparents
alice and charles matheson lived for most of their married life! as very young children we
spent many happy hours in rectory road and have fond memories of our time in pitsea and the
basildon area.
well done on the work that has gone into putting this site together. i
will be a frequent visitor im sure. |

What a wonderful site, recollections of
a childhood long gone and visions of old haunts never forgotton. To anyone from Rectory Road in
Pitsea a place i will never forget, 124 Rectory Rd the old home of my grandparents now also gone
but never forgotton.
Well done to all involved in creating this site i will return
often.

Nearing the end of another year, its 29
years since I left Basildon and I was fortunate enough to visit this year. I lived in Great
Spenders, Rising Grove, Somercotes and Alcotes before emigrating to Canada.

Lived in Basildon since 1954. Watched
the fields and farms over the years change to tar and concrete. Have marched many carnivals as
Drum Major to the Basildon Drum & Trumpet Corps from 1962 to 1972. I have many fond memories of
this ever growing town which are prompted more by the old photo's found in the books about

I visited Langdon Hills for the first time in 1958
to see sergeant Frank Ballard (and wife Daisy) again. This was my first visit to Great Britain
too. Frand stayed in our house in Geleen/NL when we were liberated and over a few decades
contacts were maintained. I have forgotten the street, where the couple with their two children
Tony and Barbara lived (would like to know it again). Neighbours were Mrs. Poole and Mrs. Sache
(if correctly spelled). The late uncle Frank organised trips to Southend-on-Sea and I had the
opportunity to go to London to visit the famous organworks of Chiappa Ltd. in Eyre Street
Hill. I am remembering Langdon Hills with nice thoughts. Basildon was then to be built, a
'new town'.
