three shop units and upper floor maisonette accommodation numbered 81A, 83A and 85A was completed in

Martin the Newsagent at No. 200, V.G. Foodstore at 201 and Jill's Ladies Hairdressers at 202. From October 2016 all three units were renamed and given new numbers. See below.

2016 renaming of Somercotes
As part of the ongoing regeneration of the Five Links housing
estate landlords Basildon Council gradually introduced new street names to replace the original names. Following court proceedings in which the council
on appeal successfully overturned a residents led case to retain the existing names, the shops at Somercotes were renamed 24, 25 and 26 Elizabeth Court from 4th October, 2016.

Other points of interest:
1) The Busy Bees Pre-School playgroup took
over 202 Somercotes following a major fire in February 2014 at their former base at the Bluehouse Farm Community Centre in Laindon Link. Following the
eventual demolition and partial rebuild of their previous home they were able to move back in January 2020. |
