The Bull public house stood in Bull Road (now Clay Hill Road), Vange. It was built
sometime in the 1800s but was demolished during the early months of 1962 to make way for a new neighbourhood shopping
centre. From the early part of the century through to closure it was operated by the brewery company Mann, Crossman and
Paulin. A long serving licencee was Jack Gardiner.
The public house closed in either September or early October
1961. Arthur and Teresa (Terry) Goldstone were the last licencees to live at the premises and they then transferred in November
1961 to the 'new' Bull public house which was built about 50 yards away at the junction with Timberlog Lane.
The Vange sub-centre, now known as Bull Parade, and car park was partly built over the site of the former pub. |
