Comments: Born and bred in Langdon Hills since 1966. Have wonderful memories of Berry Lane, Dunton and plotlands - my stomping ground as a child. Having lived through the change, I haven't really seen the significance until recently. Would like to find out more about Plotlands and Langdon Hills history. Now live in a modern house next to the area of Berry Drive and Berry Lane (the 'shady lane' part).

Comments: I went to The Laindon School from 1990 - 1995. I emigrated to Perth, Western Australia in 1996. I was quite upset looking at the photos of the School in such a mess. I haven't been back to the UK yet but I was hoping it would still be there when I did return for a holiday. It is really lovely to see the pics of Laindon, hasn't it changed!

Comments: My family and i lived in Laindon from 1978ish till 1985, when we moved to Australia. I have just been looking at the sad pictures of Laindon High School, all boared up and a wreck. I can't believe how much of a concrete jungle Laindon has become. I have wonderful memories of living in Laindon, and thanks to Facebook have been in touch with old friends who went to Millhouse Junior School...
A great site for walking down memory lane, and have been back to Basildon/Laindon to visit our old house on various trips back to the UK.

Comments: I moved to Basildon in 1960 with my family and was a Postman at the old Laindon Sorting Office in the High Road. Final move to Gladwyns on LCN & was there for almost 40 years. Played football for local GPO team and raced Autocross in a Mini Cooper for years. Moved to Cyprus in 2003 although a few of our kids still live in Basildon with their families. Used to be a great place to live but changed over the years, sadly not for the better. Still have many fond memories of places and people we knew some of whom still keep in touch. I still consider myself a Basildon Boy and I always will. Basildon was good to me and my family and it's still where my heart is.

Comments: Just discovered this site, really enjoyed looking at the photo's of Timberlog Lane, they brought back a lot of memories.

I enjoyed the stories told by Thomas Edwards and Mrs J R Cartwright as they also brought back a lot of memories of people and places that I knew.

My grangfather was a nurseryman, we lived in a bungalow in Timberlog Lane called "VERONICA" opposite where Long Riding is now.

I lived there until I was 17 when I joined the R.A.F., my neighbours one side were John and Derek Hood they lived with their parents Percy and Lillian, the other side was Ronnie Counter and his parents.

Peter Ross and his father had a car scrapyard on the corner of Ivy Road,on the other corner was Blundells General Store, changing later to Tom Ward.

Dick Stacey was a pal of mine his father owner the coal yard they lived on Stacey's corner.

Billy Cartwright.

Comments: Colin & Linda mentioned living in King Edward Drive.Around 1955 I worked weekends for a pig farmer at the top of the Drive. His name was 'Dicky' Bird and he drove stock cars. His wife was Rosie and he had 2 daughters, Shirley and Brenda and a younger boy called Jim. 'Dicky' was killed in a car accident on the Southend arterial around 1957.
Anyone have any information?

Comments: Love seeing old pics of the area. Although a Corringham boy,my father's family came to old Basildon in the 1920s and owned a poultry farm in Church Road and later on Kiln Farm in Pitsea. I wish the area still looked like it did in those old photos,it's awful now!!
